|Spokesperson Alert JAMA Releases Hope to Study Results on Vitamin E|

Dietary Supplement Information Bureau Top Researchers
Available for Comment on Study Issues and Impact
ISSUE: Tuesday, March 15, 2005 , the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) will release results of the HOPE TOO clinical trial on the effects of long-term vitamin E supplementation on cardiovascular events and cancer.
The Dietary Supplement Information Bureau Scientific Advisory Board scientific research experts have reviewed the study and identified several major concerns with the results.
WHO: David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., Jeffrey Blumberg , Ph.D. and Barbara Levine, Ph.D. are available to comment on limitations and potential problems with this study.
Dr. David Heber is director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and chief of the Division of Clinical Nutrition in the Department of Medicine at the University of California , Los Angeles . He also directs the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Nutrition and Obesity Training Program at UCLA. Heber is the author of more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles, 25 book chapters, two professional texts, and the book "What Color is Your Diet?"
Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg is a professor in the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy and the associate director of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University , Boston . Blumberg has published more than 160 scientific articles and is on the editorial board of several journals including the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, Journal of Medicinal Food and Free Radical Biology & Medicine.
Dr. Barbara Levine is associate clinical professor of nutrition in medicine and the director of the Nutrition Information Center at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She holds numerous professional memberships and is actively involved with local and national committees related to diet, nutrition and health issues. She is a founding director of the Calcium Information Center at Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
