Dietary Supplement Education Alliance (DSEA) president Elliott Balbert was presented the first Virgo Publishing ‘Focus on the Future’ Vanguard Award for his leadership which has made an important impact on the dietary supplement industry. The award was presented on Tuesday, January 22, at the ‘Focus on the Future’ 2008 awards banquet.
“I am proud to accept this award on behalf of all the members of the industry who have generously given their time and their financial backing to important initiatives,” said Balbert. “I am happy to serve as a catalyst to unite the industry behind activities that allow us to ‘give back’ to the community.”
In addition to his business success as founder of dietary supplement company Natrol, Balbert was a co-founder and the first president of DSEA. Among his accomplishments are securing over $3 million in industry contributions to meet the DSEA mission, testifying before Congress on the benefits of supplements, and creating the first-ever television campaign for the dietary supplement industry. He has also worked for the Coalition to Preserve DSHEA and has volunteered as a member of the Vitamin Angels. He has spent considerable time and effort on Operation 20/20 in an attempt to eliminate vitamin A deficiency childhood blindness.
As Virgo's Director of Business Development and award presenter Jon Benninger said, "Elliott's leadership continues to have an important impact on our industry, and we are pleased to recognize his contributions with this Vanguard Award."
